Clutch just went on my 2012 Ford S-Max, bought 6 months ago from a main dealer. I've put about 9,000Km on it since I bought it. I am being told that the warranty does not cover the clutch, which is a surprise to me. I don't "ride" the clutch or abuse it in any way. It has had nothing but normal wear & tear, since I bought it. Where do I stand ? Do I need to pay the full cost ? Thanks :(

But you don't know how the previous owner treated it.

A clutch is considered a consumable so it's hard to see how it'd be covered under a warranty. Maybe find a good indy to get it replaced for less than a Ford Dealer would charge.

No way a garage will stand over a clutch.

    What mileage on the car?

Yeah you're out of luck there tbh. Hopefully the garage look after you a bit.

As the lads said above, it's considered a wear and tear part

No way would it be covered.

Get few quotes from indy garages with good reputations. Go with the best one. Move on and dont stress over it.

Can happen to anyone its just bad luck, not your fault but not the garages either.

engine and gearbox that is all they will cover. you might have been gentle op but the previous driver could of burned the **** out of it.

Generally a buyer would look at the mileage on the car and compare to the service history to see if or when the clutch should be done. Assuming its going as per the service manual then you could have bargained the price a bit. But as others have said you just don't know how the previous owner drove it and its a wear and tear item.

A clutch is a wear and tear item, there isn't going to be anything in the car's service manual stating when it should be changed.

Still no response from the OP as to the mileage on the car/clutch...

Mileage doesn't matter. A clutch can be done in minutes or last as long as the car. It's pot luck with any 2nd hand purchase when the clutch might go.

If the clutch has a manufacturing defect say an LUK they will cover the clutch and labour.
