Better car scrappage options in Dublin city/north?

    Howdye all,

Just wondering if anyone knows of a scrapyard in Dublin City or North Dublin paying a reasonable amount for a car for scrap?

There seems to be about 50e / 60e per ton in it for scrap from a couple of calls. Just wondering if there is a better option where it might be valued at more for parts? It's a 2002 Fabia estate, has four Bridgestone tyres (two of them nearly new), no crash damage.

I can drive it there, but it'd need to be minimal hassle and I'd need a Cert of Destruction issued issued there and then.

Maybe I'm being unrealistic on this, but thought I'd ask, just in case...

Thanks in advance for any help! :-)

PS I would try to sell it but probably not worth the hassle. The car has ~200e tax on it which I believe I can reclaim if it is scrapped. Only 1 month's NCT and there is a fault needing imminent repair with it which in all conscience I'd need to disclose to a buyer. Taking all that into account and pricing of similar on DoneDeal, there's probably very little in it for the extra hassle, even at best case.

If you can't be bothered selling it then you may as well just scrap it. €60 per tonne is a good bit more than it used to be.

You get tax back if there is more than three months left.
Tax Disc must be surrendered immediately as refunds are generally calculated from the first of the month following the surrender of the disc.
A minimum of 3 unexpired whole calendar months must be left on the disc when surrendered.

If you can drive it there then the car is worth something to somebody, especially with a valid NCT, stick it up on Donedeal for €250 ono. Plenty will buy just because it has the NCT valid. Make sure you send away the VLC with new owners details.

Thanks for opinions and info to you all.

I ended up scrapping the car (at the 50e per tonne scrapyard nearer me) and will reclaim the ~200e tax.

    Best wishes,
