    Anyone watching.
I have sympathy for the genuine way the older generation ****ed over the younger generation but (and i'm not entirely sure why, maybe it's the way they come across) I also want to tell them to stop being an entitled snowflake.
    Anyone watching

I went to watch this but found it annoying especially when they kept going on about 1916 at the start so I eventually just changed over.

Every generation fcuks over the generation coming behind them in one way or another that's life.

We live in a country that has many problems but so does every country. I have no resentment towards the older generation. Likewise my generation want to see this country moving on and making the place better for all in society not just the privileged few.

I saw the title when browsing the channels earlier and just felt an urge to slap someone and scream "Well, do something about it then!"

I thought RTE were required to show political balance.

It's not really though, is it? I mean, your logic is based on absolutes and doesn't seem to consider the numerous obstacles some people can encounter.
I know people who have encountered such obstacles, people who applied themselves in school, went to college but have found themselves in financial difficulties, as many others have. Thankfully, I'm not struggling, but I suppose a TV show, like this, can give some people insight into how bleak things appear for those who are in difficulty. It might help teach some people to be slightly more humble or grateful. After all, you can't learn everything from a book.

I felt really sorry for the people in the show who were really struggling and all seemed to have a desire to better their situation and progress.

But I think that's all the programme displayed. Indivudual stories of a fairly diverse working class group.

I don't believe they are representative of the majority of young people in Ireland however.

How clever of you. Now extrapolate that shrewd observation one step further. You were born into a situation which threw up opportunities for you, and all your mates. That's not skill or effort on your part. It's fluke of birth.

If you were born into a broke family, in an area rife with drugs and social problems, how far would your secret to a good life get you then?

How do you "do well in school" with an empty stomach? How do you "get a degree in something financially rewarding" with no money to support you through college?

You have to take your opportunities, and play the hand you're dealt, but congratulating yourself for cracking the secret to life makes you seem like a pretty petty, small minded guy.

I'm going to guess but I'd imagine the person born into this family before the Celtic Tiger, during the Celtic Tiger, or during the Global Financial Collapse will have the same, or very similar outcome.

you presume too much of the poster and too little of ppl born into tough circumstances by sjw hardmanning everyone into their predefined roles in this manner.

The questions aren't rhetorical, or specific to the poster. You can answer them if you like.

The 'all you have to do to succeed in life is...' attitude is moronic. Life is not a level playing field. Implying that people struggling should have ("simples") just worked harder in school and got a good degree is entirely boll*x.

I would agree... but I don't see the relevance of the Celtic Tiger. Do you mean the outcome would be the same even if the family had more money?

The way it works is that the older folks vote more reliably so they are psnderd to. You can try to change that system or accept it and take advantage once your turn comes.

Worst case scenario would be to get sh1t on as a young person, then succeed in changing the system so you get sh1t on as an older person too. I'm in the middle so I'll probably just wait until it's my turn to take advantage. No point trying to change everything now.

Didn't see the programme, hope to see it on a re-run or on the Player, but am I going to see a big sense of entitlement on it?

Little bit ironic to see SIPTU in there.

Anyone know the name of the song used in the opening scenes? Also used in the ad for the show.

    It's driving me mad!

Where one generation has benefited (and benefited greatly) from government intervention, it is only right that they be taxed quite highly to redress the balance.

I've been touting this line in debates here on boards for the last 7 years, and you mostly find resistance to it in the property and accommodation forum.

I genuinely feel angered as to what has been done to you younger generation, and the neck of the 45+ age group who think they are where they are because of their own efforts. They're not. And you younger generation pay for it.

I've only seen the ad for the show so I'm guessing it's about the younger generation who are finding things difficult in the wake of the GFC, Global Financial Collapse.

What C Montgomery was saying was that he was part of this generation and wasn't finding it too bad.

What you were highlighting were the difficulties people born into poor areas encounter.

So I was just saying that GFC or no GFC these people struggle i.e. C Montgomery was talking about his experiences in light of the show whereas you were highlighting problems that are eternal.

Hate to be cruel here but how did the couple who were sleeping in the abandoned building and eventually got an apartment let themselves run up a gas bill of over 700 euros? Surely after all their months of living rough they knew to take it easy and plan what they could and couldn't do/purchase from their collective dole?It sounds as if they just went nuts celebrating and didn't have the forethought to think ahead.

Love the whole "societal balance" as well with the rich guy living off his daddy.

I was thinking the same thing. my gas bill would not be 700 for the entire year. Also the guy plaster with the kids. The first thing he needs to do is cancel sky save a bit and get a free sat box for 50 quid if he needs something to watch. if you cant feed your kids cancel stuff you dont need to live.
