Driveshaft issue

Last july my A4 suffered a broken control arm so I replaced the arm on the roadside and then had a knocking noise so brought the car to the mechanic and he told me that the inner CV joint on the drivers side driveshaft was damaged so researching I suggested that I get a complete drive shaft from a breakers and he can fit it, job done! Nope he went off and got the inner CV joint spider bearing (triple roller) replaced instead. €60 for the bearing and €12.50 for CV boot, 2 hours labour with a final bill of €195 including vat.

Two weeks ago the same mechanic fitted a full control arm kit to the car and as of late I was getting a knocking noise again from under the car and a vibration through the gear stick. Brought the car back to him and on inspection he tells me he cant find anything wrong with the recent work but found play in the drivers side inner CV joint again so reckons that is the issue, wants to charge me another €150 to replace the inner CV joint. I told him no thanks im not happy and ill take my business elsewhere. Should the mechanic stand over the shoddy work he done on that driveshaft albeit it was 6 months ago guys?
