Picking up new car?

I'm picking up my new car on Friday (171) but I am trading in my old car. I will have to drive my old car to the dealer, which is insured, so how will I insure my new car as I can't just take the disc from the old and put it to the new car?
Will the dealer talk to the insurance company for me as I can't drive my new car without insurance ?

Getting the registration number off the dealer is not an option as I still I have to drive my old car with insurance. Any help would be great.

Call the insurance company when there to change it over.

Ring them with new car details and tell them the story and you wish to be insured on your new car from x time you are picking her up on Friday. Simple.

They won't have the reg until they pick it up though.

OP do ring the insurance company and confirm the process with them. It will probably just be a case of ringing them from the garage with the reg number and away you go. There might be a change in premium and an admin fee though so make sure you clear that up with them first.

Normally you contact the insurer and they should be able to give you a couple hours grace where both cars are covered, either that or if your picking the car up at 1pm you organise the insurance to change at that time. The dealer should have the plate number a couple of days before, might even have it now, call them to see.

Make sure you know the exact spec of the car and engine so when your talking to insurers they cover the correct car.

Exactly, depending on the circumstances it might be a significant change in premium so the OP needs to at least get a revised cost asap.

If they try to substantially increase the premium, it's time to start getting quotes again and look at cancelling the current policy.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

I'm sure the dealer can give you the reg over the phone on the morning.

You can even do it online with some companies - avoiding admin fees!

Have you never had to transfer insurance before OP?!
