Registering Intent to Marry question

    Hi all,

I'm sure this has been asked and answered a few times but in my stressed state, I cannot for the life of me find a recent answer to this question (all answers are dated 5+ years ago so I am afraid in case things have changed)....

Can you register your intent to marry with any registrar in the country? I have booked in for our wedding date with a registrar from our area however we have yet to book the meeting to register the intent. I am worried that if we don't get an appointment in the 3 month window, we wont be able to marry legally ha. So can we (as a back up) register with any registrar and then meet with our designated one after the 3 month window to plan the ceremony?

    Cheers

I think you just need to do in the county where you want to get married. If your having a HSE registrar you won't know who'll they be until the week of the wedding.

This part stood out to me as the person you register your intent to marry with is not the person who actually conducts the ceremony, they're from the Register of Solemnisers. Apologies if I've picked you up wrong here, I just wasn't sure if that's what you meant!:)

We're having our ceremony in Kildare but registered in Dublin if that's any help to you :)

ok sorry haha let me clarify, when I rang to book the wedding I got through to a woman in the registration office who informed me that she is the one who will marry us unless by chance they get another registrar employed before the wedding. She then said that I can call back to book an appointment to register intent and that it will only be 40-45mins long etc etc. She implied she was doing both the registering of intent and conducting the ceremony which is why I asked the above :) Thanks very much for your replies, feel less stressed now haha!

Oh right, hadn't heard of that happening before so that's great if she will be doing both!:) Hopefully someone in a similar situation here might be able to help :)

I'm booked to register my intent in Dublin and getting married in laois. The form that I filled out asked name and location of wedding and I put in laois. I was never contacted to say I couldn't do this.

We're from Dublin and getting married in Dublin but registered in Bray as there was a shorter waiting list. As far as I know you can register anywhere in the country - it doesn't have to be in the same county as you're marrying in. There was nothing in the meeting that made me think that, you put down who's marrying you on the form and then they check the list to make sure they're on it :)
