We're thinking of going to Alvor for a week at the end of May. Kids will be just turned 4 and 1. We're not particularly interested in kids clubs or anything and hope to have a car to get out and about but could anyone recommend hotels or apartments? A kiddie pool is probably a must.

I've read a good bit on Alvor and it sounds like it will suit us but open to hearing peoples opinions too.
    Thanks.

went to Portugal couple of years back and stayed in Turim Estrela Do Vau. nice clean apartments. was out away from Portimao, half way between Praia Da Rocha and Alvor.
We spent most evenings in Alvor though. Much quieter, smaller and more relaxed than the busy tourist laden Praia Da Rocha.
If you have a car that will be a lot easier. We used to taxi around but was only 7/8 euro from hotel to Alvor, 10/15 minute drive max.

    definitely recommend Alvor.

    Thanks.

We have been to Alvor a couple of times. First with a toddler and then when the kids were about 4 & 2. It was lovely.

We stayed in the same apartment complex both times. Vila da Praia. We rented it from a holiday home rental website. Can't remember which site.

It was close to both the town centre and the beach (10 mins walk). There's a big pool and a kiddies pool. There's lovely garden areas around the complex. There's no bar but there are a couple next door who do good snack type food.
Zoomarine would be a great day out for the family.

You wont go wrong with Monte Gordo. It was recommended to me by Portuguese friends. Book early as its popular with the portuguese.:D
