NCT failed for registration plates

I'm missing the county name above the reg number ...seems to have faded from sunlight on both front and rear. Have to bring it back for a visual.

Anyone know where I can get these stickers? I'm told they usually have these stickers in the centre and will put them on free when needed but they were out of stock. I guess I could try calling another test centre, and threy might have stock.

I'm located near Dublin city centre, are there motor factor shops that might have these stickers?

Yep, most motor factors should have these stickers.

Had to get one years ago for a Starlet rear number plate, i had at the time think it cost 50 cent.

I've just called two motor factors on the north side and they don't have them - "Haven't seen them in a long time"

I might be forced to try permanent marker or just get new plates

New plates aren't expensive. Could make the car look better also if they are really bad. Little fresher looking you could say.

There's nothing stopping you writing it in marker or just sticking a label on there temporarily AFAIK.

Permanent marker. We do it regularly.

The reason behind the county name in Irish is hilarious.

I don't have the county in Irish over my plate

    Never been an issue.

Put it thru nct.. If it's a fail, it'll only be a visual

    Take the chance

Thread title said OP failed NCT though.

    OP here

Went to another NCT centre, they gave me the stickers I needed and were able to pass me and gave me my NCT cert.

Was it the fellow with the BAC (Baile Atha Cliath) numberplate?

The tech on the floor referred me to the office where I got the stickers. Yeah they were free ..I didnt wait long enough to be charged :) The tech at the other test centre clearly explained they were free but had no stock of my county.

I wasnt looking forward to fiddling about with a permanent marker

What's the NCT's logic behind testing number plates, I understand if there falling off the car, but if they are the wrong size, font or missing digits, surely that is not a safety issue at all and more so a legal problem that the Gardaí would have to deal with?

Seems logical to check them when the car is in.
