Opel Vectra heating issue

    Hi Folks

Just wondering if this is something that any Opel Vectra owners have come across before as it seems to have me and my mechanic stumped.

When the car is sitting stationary with the engine running it will get hot. The stat will move up to 90 deg (there about,s) which indicates to me that its hot. However when i start to drive the stat drops to zero deg and the engine register's cold. The result of this is no heating in the car , i cant get hot air at all.

I got a new radiator in a few weeks ago so i know its not that. Mechanic has told me that water is boiling all the way up to the dashboard and through the system , as it should and for some reason not producing heat , i cant figure out why everything just gets cold when i drive.

    Cheers.

In my experience that usually means the thermostat has had it, probably stuck open so when you are on the open road it's cooling too much. Get a new one in, they're usually pretty cheap and easy to do if you are handy yourself

Thanks lads , i had already suggested to him that i suspected the stat may have been stuck open so i would have presumed he would have checked it.

Definitely sounds like a thermostat issue. I had an '05 Vectra diesel last year and it done the same thing.

Bit worrying if a mechanic hasn't already mentioned this.

I have a 2007 1.6 Vectra. When I bought it I had the exact same issue. It was the thermostat. Changed it over and bled the system and all was good. Mechanic should of known the symptoms of a bad thermostat. Depending on the engine its very easy to change over yourself. I did mine on my driveway and i am by no means a mechanic.

Its highly recommended not to buy a pattern part and go OEM.

I got a genuine one from this crowd at a good price.
