Rumbling noise Smax

If it's a proper audible knocking I'd be betting Drop Links, had a bad knocking from my car and it was a drop link sheared off.

Sorry for butting in here but I have an S-Max 2 L diesel and recently there is a slight rumbling noise from front passenger side which is only noticeable when moving off and turning steering at same time. Once speed picks up noise disappears and isn't noticeable again until speed reduces to a crawl again. Is this bushings of some sort or the drop link mentioned here? Thanks

Moved out from someone else's thread.

Possibly wheel bearing / ball joint

    Some info

Thanks for information.I've been up the walls over last few weeks and only now looking to get this issue sorted. I've noticed that the noise only occurs when turning steering wheel while moving very slowly. Once moving at a reasonable speed no noise is noticeable irrespective of steering inputs. Does this description help narrow down the possible cause of the problem? Thanks

When going over speed bumps or rough road surfaces are you noticing anything?

No the only time there is any noticeable noise is when moving slowly and turning steering wheel at same time. There is no vibration through steering wheel and no movement in wheel when car is jacked up.

Front anti roll bar bushes. Just in my own experience.

Thanks. Any idea how difficult to replace and cost?

Had a similar problem with our 2.0l smax. When stationary, there was a dull knocking when the steering was turned, and reduced when moving slowing. Turned out it was bearings in the suspension in the front driver's side. Days work for a decent mechanic. About €200 done it.

That sounds exactly like my issue. Would it be dangerous to drive in that condition? If I could hang on for a week that would be great but don't want to take any risks if not safe. Thanks

Mechanic said if it gets really bad it can put pressure on the power steering pump. However ours was like that about 12months before we could get it fixed.

Never the less, get it fixed as soon as you can for piece of mind.

Thanks for the info. I might leave if for a week more so. I've noticed a slight noise for a while now but it has deteriorated over the last couple of weeks. Its due a NCT in a month in any case and presumably it would fail on that issue. Im contemplating just booking it in early and letting the NCT identify any problems so I can bring a list to my mechanic to sort out. The joys of a 9 year old car!
