Hi All, I was made aware that my home address is available on a website based in the Netherlands. The website is called BTW Zoeken. It shows name, home address & VAT Number. I am registered for VAT but currently not trading as am now PAYE but I was a bit freaked out to see my home address readily available online. Does anyone know what this site is or how do I get my data removed?. Thanks

Deregister for VAT. The details of anyone registered for VAT is in the public domain for obvious reasons.

Excuse my ignorance, but what are those obvious reasons?

it is concerning but what can we do

all this talk about not giving out your pps no and they make you write it on every business thing you hand out to customers

unfortunitly your pps no has lots of info tied to it

So that anyone (business or private, customer or supplier) can verify the details of the counterparty. A VAT registration and the details attached to it are specifically not private personal data, they're the details of a business entity - if you register your home address as the address of your VAT registration that's your choice.

Anyone who is vat registered should be able to be verified, see above EU link which allows potential customers to check validity of business, not new, always been in place!!

I was registered for VAT when I was a sole trader, had not de-registered in case I took on any freelance work. I would have no issue with a check for a valid vat number to ensure compliance but was concerned to see my home address, given that I was a sole trader & not a company. The only reason I found this out was my 13 year old googled my name!!!.

The system for checking is a publicly available database. You registered your name and you registered your home address as your business address. If you had a separate office that would have come up instead.

Sole Traders aren't different from Limited Companies if they are VAT registered certain pieces of information must be in the public domain for any vat registered trader. Deregister and you should disappear from the database.

Thanks for the info. Will be sorting that out this coming week.
