    Hi everyone,

We're looking to get married on St. Patrick's Day 2018 which is a Saturday. I'm trying to figure out if the following Monday the 19th is a public holiday? When researching it, it states it's a day observed. Can anyone shed light on this re who will/won't be working the Monday? Teaches, office workers etc...

    Thanks

I'm a teacher. School holidays for 2017 to 2018 have not been decided yet and won't be until spring 17 but in the past if Saint Patrick day falls on a wkd day we have the following Monday off. My friend got married on Paddys day just gone, fantastic day for a wedding ! If you want a church service though check with your priest before you book anything! My friends priest made an exception but made it clear he wasn't supposed to be doing it!

Certainly where I work (private sector) we observe the following working day where the public or bank holiday falls on the weekend.

When St Patricks day falls on a weekend the following Monday is when the bank holiday occurs, so anyone who wouldn't normally work on a bank holiday will have that Monday off in general, I believe they can be asked to come in on the Monday in lieu of another day off but in general most people will be off.

Yes, it will be a day off for most office workers.

Make sure you don't invite too many rugby fans! It's usually the final day of the 6 nations ;)

Be careful if you want a church wedding. We wanted to get married this year on saint Patrick's day and it is not allowed in the Dublin diosece. And not allowed in most diocese in Ireland.

But yes, when a normal bank holiday falls on a weekend day the following Monday is always treated like the bank holiday.
