    Hi

    I have a 2006 BMW 523i.
I was checking the coolant today and noticed that the stick part has become disconnected from the float.

The stick still rests on top of the float. I can see the float has a little hole in it - in to which the stick part needs to insert but I can't insert it as the float obviously goes down with any pressure.

See attached pics which explain things better.

Is this any issue really ?
How would one rectify it ?

Tbh it's not really an issue now that you know about it just make sure the stick is perpindicular to the float when you're checking the coolant levels. Obviously someone must have tried to pull the stick up before without thinking about the float.

It could be fixed but it'd be a tedious little mission and in reality it's not really necessary to fix it.

    Thanks for the input.

Yeah, could be a pain to fix alright, would it involve essentially taking the tank apart, do you think ?

I'd say it'd involve draining it anyways and then either pressing the stick back into the cup joint or else possibly using some sort of adhesive to reattach the two.

Could be something to keep in mind the next time the coolant is being changed.

Can't really see the point in tackling it specifically to sort this one issue.

You'll need a piece of string and superglue.

Put glue on string, and touch it off the float.

    Bring float to surface.

    Wedge in place

Attach stick with more super glue if necessary

Or just buy a new expansion tank

Right. Thanks. It would want to be a rigid enough piece of string. When you say "wedge in place" what do you mean ?
