Hi there, im looking for some advice. were looking to go to Portugal for 10 nights the very end of May/ beginning of June. weve already been to albufeira twice so ruling that out. We went to Sanguli last year, liked the area but figure the kiddies are too young for it. they are now 3 and 1yr. so what im really looking for is a 2 bed apartment/villa for 2 adults and 2 kids. nice area, nice safe pool, within walking distance to a beach and plenty of nice walks around. ideally plenty of playgrounds too. Any ideas welcome!!

We like carvoeiro or praia de luz. we usually hire a car and stay west of lagos or go east towards spain to tavira or cabanas.

Have a look at Cavalo Preto apartments in Quarteria. Been there a few times , new apartments and very close to the beach. Lots of play parks in the area too. Only 25mins transfer from the airport.

Go close to Lisbon, like Cascais or Setubal. Quite nice, though the weather might not be as settled then as it would be on the Algarve

alvor is perfect for family with very young kids
it's not the most exciting of the resorts to be honest but its compact accessible and safe

We stAyed in Olhao last year.

Stayed there too and loved it, for the beaches you need to get a water taxi there , but if a novelty and the islands are lovely. The best time to go is when the seafood festival is on, cheap concerts ever night and great food.

we stayed in the real marina apartments.there are really nice beaches along the coast. Praia de barril has a small train out to it from praia del Rey,
Also a ferry from harbour out to beach's on the islands, we had a car so getting around was easy,
Apartments were nice with facilities in hotel and babysitters available,

The shops are walking distance with some nice fish restaurants nearby, it's a Portuguese village rather than an English speaking tourist spot, you won't get an English breakfast or fish and chips:)
    Its close to faro.

Its close to Spain as well .

The area was recommended to us by Portuguese friends

Go East of Faro Airport for a more relaxing holiday.

Can vouch for Tavira as possibly being a nicer place to stay than Olhao.
We stayed on the island of Armona (off Olhao) one year and Tavira the next..Tavira is a nicer town than Olhao imo...

yes I just found that it felt and looked a bit more like a holiday town than Olhao..I liked Olhao, don't get me wrong; just preferred Tavira...

Anyone tried the Silver Coast yet?

    Hi Luppy,

I'm looking at pretty much the exact same situation as you faced last year - where did you end up going?
    Any recommendations?

Did you decide on anywhere slig17?

I'm looking at Portugal for a short break in June - could do with some inspiration!

    +1

    Went here about 3yrs ago
Stayed at the Pestana Viking Hotel
We had 2 boys age about 12 & 10. The rooms are spacious, separate bedroom from main room, boys slept in the pull out couch. Small kitchenette aswell in the room.

Pool area is spacious and plenty beds

We had B&B and the breakfast is excellent

Across the road is a nice bar that does decent food and 15-20 min walk is the town of Armacao with loads of family friendly restaurants

Ideally something not too far from a town, with good facilities for an almost 2 year old.
Near a beach would be a preference - and with self catering accommodation. Like a chalet or small apartment.
