Recording eir Sports

Is there any way to record an eir sports programme when using an eir/Setanta only card in a Sky+ HD box? There is no Sky subscription.

Alternatively is there any means of hacking this Sky+ HD box to allow use of the built in HDD to record to and view later?

In truth I would be prepared to cannibalise the box if I could achieve this.

    moved to Satellite

There is no discussion of hacking systems here. Thread is left open only on basis that the first paragraph only is discussed

Just to clarify ....... there is no Sky subscription associated with this.
I have NO interest in any 'Sky Channels'.

I AM interested in hacking this box in whatever manner I can to facilitate the recording of eir Sports channels for which I have a valid decryption card.

The ONLY reason I acquired a 'Sky+ HD box' is to be able to view the eir channels.
This box is not used for any other purpose ...... not even to view FTA channels.

If I could hack the damned thing so that the only things showing in the interface were the eir sports channels I would be more than happy.

I'm in the same situation with a Sky box for Eir Sports only, I use an old Sony HDD recorder connected via scart, not HD but it's acceptable.
I only use it for the flyaway MotoGP races anyway.

Theres no way, unless you pay sky €10 a month for the privilege.

Cheaper to get a 2nd box with recording capabilities to stick the card into.

I do not understand what you mean.
Eir sports will only be received in HD on a decryption card in a Sky+ HD box. No other box will do.

I used to have the card in a Ferguson box during the Setanta era and all was well for FTA programmes.
When eir took over all was good too for a few months ... in SD only but all channels received.

Then something changed and the card lost its ability to be used in the Ferguson box ...... apparently changed on the eir/Setanta side.

Now it will only work in a Sky box and it must be a Sky+ HD box to get the HD channels.

Unfortunately, without a Sky subscription, I cannot record to the internal HDD of this Sky box that I own.

I just want to figure out a means to use the hardware I have ..... the HDD!

I meant a new FTA box.

Havent done it in probably close to 2 years but a Skycard with a Setanta only Sub worked fine in my ferguson ariva with recording fuctions. The only thing was I had to pop it back into the old skybox every few weeks to keep it going, sometimes even having to repair it again.

I dont know if it still works, I just assumed it does.

Bottom line is anyway, theres no way to use the skybox to record unless you pay. There never has, and prob never will be a work around, given everyones moving their attention to SKY Q.

As I posted it no longer works in a Ferguson box.

The lack of recording is why I asked about hacking the box.
It is absolutely useless at the moment ..... and a horrible interface without a subscription.

So, anyone aware of any hacks to break this box apart and take a soldering iron to some parts to get it to function like it 'should'?

Thanks ..... bloody annoying that an external recording device has to be used when a perfectly good internal HDD lies there unused!

Not matter how many times you ask, there isnt going to be any other alternative answer.

It cannot be done! If there was itd be widely reported and info how to all over the place.

I find it difficult to comprehend that it cannot be done with hardware hacking.

Recording can be done using the SCART connector so it should be possible to record on the HDD.

The box is closed source and later boxes have no scart the Sky Q box uses a different lnb and no outputs. Sky are locking their systems with every change.

I am interested in that €10.00 euro a month bit but how do I get it?? Is it just a case of ringing sky and asking?

Look I'm sorry, the OP continues to persue the hacking line even when warned. The software in the Sky+HD box, is as pointed out above, closed source proprietary software. There is absolutely no way we can allow discussion of hacking the box here.

    Thread closed.
