Airline gift vouchers?

We have a family member who lives in New Zealand and would like to give a gift of a return trip home. We want to leave her the flexibility to choose her own dates (in the next few years), route & airline. Just sending the money is not an option

Is there any generic "airline gift voucher" type scheme that we could use?

I always thought that you buy airline vouchers for people you hate, because they have so much trouble using them that they will hate you back by the end of it. They might even use them to fly in the opposite direction ;)
If you dont want to give them cash then your options are limited.

Send them the money via Western Union with a note saying "spend this money on flights home"

There are ludicrous restrictions on some vouchers, including only being able to be used in the currency they were bought. So, despite the fact they already have your money, they don't let you use it. I got rightly stung trying to use an Aer Lingus voucher for a flight home out of Warsaw some years ago.

I would just send the cash.
