    Had gasket got fixed on car 8montgs ago and got a mechanic to fix it. Timing belt snapped week later wrecking few injectors. Same guy fixed injectors and head again but I had to buy the 2nd hand head because he said it was piece of the cam shaft broke and snapped the belt (I know I know but at the time, just wanted car on the road). Was going to sell the car adter xmass thinking the car is ok but then problem again. Got someone to tow away and timing belt snapped again! Guy who did the gasket expecting car next week to have look at it but thinking of giving to the main dealer so I can get written confirmation as to what it is rather than him bull ****ting me once he gets his hands on it.

    Anyone know costs of main dealers to look at the car, then I take it away to the guy who needs to sort this for me so he has it on written paper about it being the belt

    Doesn't matter what it is. Isn't a belt supposed to last 10k before it should fail

    It actually does matter what it is and a belt should last a lot longer than 10k miles

    No they recommend that the belt should be changed after x km or x years, with all manufactured items some will last longer and some will last shorter than the average.

    None do but with all manufacturing processes there are always a few that fail, which is why safety critical systems have redundancy.

    It is more likely that the fault lies with the mechanic in this case.

    You asked about main dealer costs. I'm thinking it would matter what car you are talking about.
