Would it be handy enough to adjust the head lamps myself? Got a mechanic to fix one of my lights that was loose and failed on the NCT. He said it might be safer to go to a garage as it's a re test and I wouldn't want to fail on 1 small thing after doing all the other maintenance.

Living near city center so could anyone recemmond somewhere. Got quoted €50 which I think is a bit high

If it is a retest, then you should get them focused. After all they will be putting the car on their equipment to test for misalignment specifically.

I don't know anyone around Cork city centre but you could try yourself - youtube have several video on how to do it DIY.
