Noticed this a lot of late, really terrible click bate sh1t, headlines that don't fit on the app, 3 or 4 headlines that are the same story and stories that aren't stories at all, breaking sports news today had a fascinating headline about frank lampard and his dog at the gym, in what world would this even qualify for news?? I used think it was a good app but now.. Sweet Jebus!

To be fair I actually was shocked at how different Susan Boyle looks now.

Journalism was a lot better in the past when people actually bought newspapers and newspapers were the only source of information for many people. With the rise of social media and online journalism, they just appeal to our lower attention spans using clickbait.

The Turkish coup attempt was relatively exciting despite the wrong side coming out on top but its mostly meh, needs more explosions.

Most idiots people now get their news via social media.

So, unfortunately, that means ad / click revenue for the likes of TheLadBible / Buzzfeed and other shíte clickbait.

That's probably not true. There were probably all sorts of nonsense publications, heavily biased reporting because everyone else had the same biases, straight up lies because the reporters knew people would rather hear what they wanted to hear rather than the truth.. At least today you can try verifying what's said, back then people just had to accept what they read.

A good point made, but look at the circulation of newspapers in Ireland, look at the likes of the Liberal.ie , plagiarising journalists and running fake competition. I personally think journalism has regressed and I don't think I am alone in that opinion.

I've found myself paying less and less attention to the yellow "Breaking News" banner, accompanied by a "whoosh" sound effect, which regularly pops up on Sky News.
It's generally nothing of any great interest, or it's some minor update on a story which has been going on all day.

They're going to need something new to catch people's attention now, something which signifies that the following story genuinely is of consequence and literally just coming in right now.
"MEGANEWS ALERT!" flashing on the screen with WWII-style air-raid sirens blaring out might do the trick :D
