Hey. My mate has a 2012 Skoda Octavia. It has the Amundsen system. He needs to update his maps as they've never been updated. He bought the car from a main Skoda dealer about a year or so ago.
When he puts his vin number into the Skoda update portal, it says that it has to be done through a Skoda dealer.
    I've two questions.
Can his maps be updated without going to main dealer?
Also, when you buy a used car from a main dealer, should the maps be updated before it's sold?
    Any answers out there?
    Thanks.

The Skoda unit is the same as the VW RNS-510. There are lots of resources online for if you search for this device. Maps and updates are identical for all.

That said, maps for this unit are released annually. Usually around September. It's now up to V.14. It costs a few hundred euros for a dealer to update the maps however, like everything these days, there are copies circulating the internet for folks to pirate as it's a very easy update process (so I'm told ;)).
