Watch display case: where did you buy yours?

I bought my current watch display case off e-Bay. It was only about £12 delivered if I remember correctly and whilst it's functional it does look cheap. What bothers me the most though is the crap carton 'cushions' - they have no give in them which means that you have to essentially crush them to fit your bracelet size.

The watch collection is ever growing (as you all very well appreciate!) and the time has come to add another case. What and where do you recommend please? Note I have no Patek Phillippe 's or such so not looking for a mad expensive handmade case.

Lidl tea box and some cheap cushions from eBay for me!

I got a watch box off eBay before that, but the dividers/inserts were really fragile.

I picked up a Peli case just before Christmas so I could have something more secure. Like Eoin I also have a couple of Lidl tea boxes, one for straps and the other is being used for watches until I get another Peli.

+1 on Peli case and Lidl tea boxes.

Are the Lidl tea boxes one of their weekly specials or always available? I don't drink tea so have no idea what these look like. Maybe someone could be so kind and post a pic of it?

A quick search/google showed me what I'm looking for. Fingers crossed they come around again soon!

They're normally on sale at some stage every year

There’s a “Lidl Tea Box watch” thread which hopefully someone will bump when they next see the ad in the paper!

Lidl tea box here too with ebay cushions. But mine is posh. ie, I stained and varnished it during a moment of boredom.

Sounds like a good excuse for some photos too:)

This was one of mine just after I purchased it in 2013.

Strange seeing the watches I owned back then. Only two of that lot are still with me and they are the Longines (grandfathers) and the Sekonda (wedding watch) I believe the others were all bought by boardsies.

The bottom needs to be lined because your clasps and buckles can get marked.

Stranger finding a 2011 photo, this is a box that a hard drive was delivered in.

Ugh, I regret flipping the Artego, that was a nice watch.

Careful now. That doesn't look like the one I've bought in the past. It's looks smaller (6 small square compartments rather than 6 long rectangle ones.

That lidl link has expired it seems.

Edit: link is incorrect, browsing their site shows the box in the specials starting 30th January. I'm on phone so can't post link.

While we're on the subject, has anyone got any good links or advice on where to get a peli case? Which model do people on here have? I was thinking about getting the peli 1470 laptop style case, holds around 18 watches I think.

I ordered directly from them here in Ireland. I got a small 1050 which holds 3 watches. Great service and Laura very nice to deal with.

Here is a screenshot of the tea box from the website

Would it work well? But a few cushions for eBay or whatever.

I use a peli 1150 which is good for 6, picked it up from amazon with free shipping. I did find a local company that supplies them and prices seem reasonable.

Just went up the local Lidl on the lunch but couldn't see them anywhere. Anyone else have a look? Will they be a one-day only thing?

I picked one up today, even though they're quite small as Sparrowcar advised. I'll see if I can get it to fit somehow.

Managed to get a couple earlier. If i can't make it into a watchbox, i'll use it for my cufflinks...now to buy more cufflinks!!! :pac:

Bought a great peli style case in Maplins today, €45, fits 18 watches and has a full foam panel with removable pieces.

This is the one, I think it's a great job. Fair enough it's not bombproof like a Peli case but I only store it under the bed anyway so it doesn't need to be able to withstand the impact of a falling cavity block from 50ft :pac:

    Interior foam is excellent.

To be honest I'd still stick with a Peli (I have 5 but only two of them are full of watches). I bought (or rather work paid as I claimed the cost back) something very similar to the Maplins example when the hand luggage ban came in a few years back in the UK so that I could "safely" check in my laptop. It was in pieces after the 2nd or 3rd flight whereas I have every expectation that, if I'd bought a Peli, I'd still have it. The joke is there was a big pile of Peli cases in the office and I probably could have just helped myself to one if I'd known about them at the time.

True, if I was going to use them for hauling stuff about and taking travelling with me I'd go for a peli all day long, but I think as a sheer storage case just to keep the dust off them the one from Maplin offers great functionality for the price. I wouldn't trust the build quality or strength of the Maplin one for protecting its contents from heavy handling or the treatment it would get whilst being used as a football by some baggage handlers. But for simple household storage, it could be argued that a Peli is complete overkill if all you need is something to keep them dustfree, co-located and organised.

    it could be argued

After you have bought your second watch you can't ever use those words because nothing makes sense anymore. :D

I can't disagree with any of that however for me it falls, rather like tools, under the label of buy cheap and buy twice - who knows what you might want to re-purpose the thing for in the future.
