I have a broken coil spring on a 2005 new model Passat Diesel. My mechanic told me to get a second hand one rather than new. I was doing a google search and came on a company misterauto that seems to have new coil springs and shock absorbers for a little more than the second hand price. Have any of you bought parts from misterauto ? Are there many different quality parts & what is a good name in suspension parts. Thanks

Dont buy second hand springs for your car. Mister Auto is like Micks Garage, prices seem very good buy try mick garage as they seem cheaper at the moment especially when you use the discount codes.

Mister auto are great price wise but they are slow delivery wise and they are known to make the odd mistake.
I use them for scheduled maintenance parts, not for bits I need quick.

They have a warehouse in Coventry now so delivery is fast enough.

@OP they have specials on coil springs today actually..

I would only be buying springs from VW themselves, and in a pair.
Same as shocks, springs should be replaced in pairs.

Why VW, because you will get the correct springs ordered by vin number. Not a generic spring that may be softer or cause the car to sit higher or lower depending on the spec and weight of your car.

I'd be changing my mechanic, if he advises using secondhand parts for suspension

    .

I think what he said was that if I do one side with new parts it could possibly cause an NCT failure.

He has now priced doing both sides with new parts but one broken spring does not justify spending €400, so hopefully when he gets a look at the job it will not entail replacing any more that the spring
