Hello. I am a non-resident landlord, with tenants agreeing (in contract) to be liable for water usage charges.

Am I entitled / able to check if they have registered / paid water bills up to date, and if they haven't, who is ultimately liable when they move out?

    Thanks

No one. Water charges are dead and their will be no way of pursuing the hundreds of thousands of non payers

    Hi scot1964,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

If you would like to send us a PM with the address of the property and your own name, we can confirm if there is someone other than yourself registered at the property. However, we can't provide the names or details of those who may be registered.

If the tenants of a property have registered their details with Irish Water, they are responsible for any bills owed for the period of time they lived at the property. We would advise that tenants contact us up to 10 days prior to their moving date so that we can update all details accordingly.

As the landlord of a domestic property, you are obliged to contact Irish Water and provide the names of your tenants and the start date of the agreement you have with your tenants, to ensure that you are not held liable for water charges should your tenants remain unregistered with us.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Amy

A simple "yes" or "no" answer would suffice.

I'm not in favor of water charges myself but what can you do if your landlord won't return your deposit if you can't furnish proof your bills were paid . I opted for the easier option of wanting my deposit back so I made the choice paying it . My deposit was worth lot more

How did you fare out with this?

The tenants provided proof they has paid up to the abolition date. As i'd written it into their contract, they had no issue with it.
