What did you think of Leaving Las Vegas ?

This has to be in my top five favorite movies - i really liked it. Some people might say that it is too depressing but i don't think so.

On the outset this doesn't seem like you typical romantic flick but there is something oddly romantic about it nonetheless. Especially considering they are both on the fast track to oblivion. They hadn't much but at least they had each other....but not for long - something had to give in this high inflammable relationship. You could see where the relationship was going but that didn't make it any easier.

'Sting' provides us with the Jazzy soundtrack that really gives the film an extra boost and sets up the atmosphere nicely in Sin City. Nicolas Cage in his best performance of his career plays a great drunk and Elisabeth Shue should have won an academy award for her portrayal of a lost soul. 'Leaving Las Vegas' is a deeply sad portrayal of a man who once had it all - he is perceptive of his situation and he knows what he wants

What did you think of it?

It has been a good few years since I watched it but I remember it pretty well so I suppose that speaks to its quality. I remember it being slow moving and bittersweet, probably not everyone's cup of tea. I like it all the same, Nicholas Cage gets treated like a bit of a joke these days but I thought that role was perfect for him.

Looking back, it reminds me a little of Mike Leigh's "Naked" which has similar pacing and has a tone of desperation about it. Both films are certainly worth a watch.

Elisabeth Shue, on the chair, with the liquor, by the pool. Haven't seen the movie in at least 15 years, will always remember that.

A film I'd have to watch again to fully appreciate but it's definitely one you wouldn't really quite forget. The scene where he's struggling to reach the fridge to chug a glass of vodka with a token dash of OJ is one scene in particular that just never left me, haunting stuff.

Without doubt Cage's finest moment, long time since I've seen it but I remember sitting down to watch it not expecting too much and being glad I took the punt.

Fantastic film, maybe Nicolas Gages last great performance .. amazing acting and really showed the true hell of what must be alcoholism .
As mentioned above that scene where he was legging it to the fridge for the Vodka and OJ ... the part where he was in the strip club and just necked a half jack of whiskey ... his eyes right after that .. jesus I'll never forget it.

It's a long time since I've watched it but I did not like it at the time. Probably should give it another chance but it's just so depressing.

Without doubt Cage's finest performance. Not many people have pulled off the stark reality of alcoholism on screen

Unforgettable when he & mate are 'nicely ejected' from establishment with swimming pool.
