Caught speeding but no fine or points

I was pulled over for speeding by a Garda with a speed gun in June 2016. He took my details and checked with me if my address was as per my license. I have heard nothing since. How long does a Garda have to issue the fine and penalty points? I have no issue paying the fine or having the penalty points as I was speeding but I don't want to be issued a summons for non-payment of a fine. Any advice?

If your car is registered on the VLC at your current address I wouldn't worry about it.

They have upto 6 months to apply for a summons, not sure how long after issuing the summons till they have to serve it though.

    Thanks for the replies.

    What's VLC?

How long do they have to issue the fine? Presume they would only issue a summons if the fine wasn't paid. I haven't received any letter.

    Vehicle license certificate.
He's essentially referring to where you have the car registered. Did you change address and not inform your local MTO of the new address?

The Guard asked the OP if his address matched the one on his licence.
The name and address on the VLC would not be relevant in this case as the OP was actually stopped and produced his licence at the time of the offense.
If the Guard was going to issue a penalty it would have gone to the name and address shown on the licence, as this was the person who committed the offense (regardless of whose name or address is on the VLC).

You're probably grand at this stage, from previous experience I found if you're nice and courteous to a guard they do cut you some slack and as long as you weren't going some mad speed you'd be fine.
I was caught doing 72 in a 50 and got caught by a handheld. It's outside Kildollery and anyone familiar with the area knows the approach road is a joke where there's an overtaking lane and then the speed drops suddenly from 100 to 60 and then to 50 in the space of about 100 metres. I drove away and after I turned off for my road I waited for him to caught up in a few mins. Just had a quick chat , show my license at the station and no more ever heard.

My license gives my new address but a different address was registered with the mto. I've no idea what address is on the vlc.

I was doing 116km in a 80km zone. I was courteous to the guard.

    .

I'm hoping I'm fine but I would still like to know if there's a time limit on the issuing of a fine.
