Anyone ever heard of getting money back on insurance when you upgrade?

That would depend on the car

It depends on what rating they put on the new car and how it affects the premium. They may also deduct an administration fee.

Yes I did once, I replaced my car with a newer and more valuable car and when I phoned to tell the insurer they told me that the insurance was cheaper on the new car and sent me a refund for the difference. A few days later I received a cheque in the post for approx €40 if I remember correctly...
