Frontal Dormer Windows

Hi all. Hoping somebody can answer a quick question. I have bought a 5 bed dormer house. At the landing at the top of the stairs there is already a front facing velux window. What I want to do is remove this and install a slight extension and put in place a dormer window. I know planning permission is required for a dormer window but is this still the case when a window already existed in this position at the front of the hse which is currently a velux. People are probably thinking I should leave it be, but I need to install a new staircase and this slight extention would help greatly if I could do this. The extention would not exceed the hight of the roof. Otherwise space is tight and I may be still okay.

As per Bryan's post, planning is required. Even if this was to the rear, planning would be required.

Cool cool. Just to add, I already have an application for planning permission lodged in have installed 4 fire escape compliant windows in both gables. The planning application states in Part B - permission for alterations to the existing dwelling design. Does this mean that if my planning is granted then I could go ahead with the frontal Dormer window wrk as well. You guys are probably asking why the hell I didn't include it in the first case. Simple answer. I did not at the time even consider that there could be too much of an issue with replacing the stairs. As previously mentioned, ff landing with the dormer roof could pose issues. There may not be any issues yet. I'm just considering all my options. My staircase designer got me a little concerned. Appreciate all the advice.

No, you need a new planning application for the front dormer window.
