Driving test tips please

    Hello,

I will be doing my driving test for the third time next Wednesday afternoon in Wilton. I failed the first time in November due to reaction to hazards (I drove too fast towards a bottleneck in the road which I failed to anticipate in good time), but I also made a lot of silly mistakes due to my nerves which resulted in my earning a grand total of 18 grade 2s and 1 grade 3 @.@ My second attempt, which took place shortly after my Xmas exams, went a lot better, even though I still ended up failing in the end. Thing is because I didn't want to be done for reaction to hazards I drove too slowly and ended up failing for lack of progress. I think the main thing that got me also was progress at roundabouts; I am very poor at judging the size of a safe gap for me to enter and as a result I always end up waiting for-freaking-ever to enter the thing.

My third attempt is in 2 weeks and I really can't stand the thought of walking into the office after the driving test and again hearing the words, "I'm afraid you were unsuccessful this time..."

The really ****ty thing is that I'm a foreign student and so don't get any spare practice outside of my driving lessons because I'm not insured on anyone's car. However I definitely plan to do a few more lessons and pre-tests before going for it the third time. In light of this, I would greatly appreciate any useful tips regarding the test, especially if you have experience doing it in the Cork Wilton test centre. It's like I just can't pass the thing, like I just can't reach this milestone to adulthood which so many of my peers have already reached... and I've spent too much time and money on this thing for me to back out and give up halfway.

Have you any friends who drive that you could go around in their car as a passenger and try to pick up their good habits?

I actually don't have many friends who drive their own cars, they've their licenses though.

I will try asking around though, thanks for the advice :)

My best tip is get familiar with driving. Even if it's just going around you're drive (if thats possible), you'll pick up the feel of the car better than driving in an unfamiliar place.

What I did was got a testers car 2 times before the test and 1 on the morning of the test, mainly to get familiar with the car I was going to be using. It's also helps to ease some of the nerves.

3 times isnt that uncommon. I know people that have done it anywhere from 1-7 times to pass.

Thanks Reventon93. Yes that's what I've been doing my previous 2 tests, been learning and testing in the same car, my driving school's car. Will definitely try my best next Wed and hope things work out.
