What do you need doing, they are pretty simple to work on in general, share alot with normal mk2.

It's time for a new clutch and from flicking through forums on the net I'm seeing the way to go is with a rs kit and flywheel. Is it straight forward or am I going to run into hidden costs

Nope i had this done on mine and it's a straight swap. Dreamscience in UK normally do good deals on RS clutch kits, around 800-900e with flywheel and all bolts needed.

Moved from Upgrades to main forum as OP is talking about clutch.

If it was me I wouldn't bother changing the flywheel, there is no need. Just fit the RS clutch.

The flywheels can go on them too and as you are going to pay the labour of doing clutch might as well do the fly wheel too as if goes in future then your paying all over again.
A and K Motorsport also do the RS kit and are reasonable and great to deal with buy lot off them for my St.
Also blackchurch are Ford specialists in Dublin.

DMF failure is very rare and the flywheel is very expensive so I reckon it's worth taking the chance tbh.
