Possibly locked via the key to disable the button on the boot. Try maybe pressing unlock on the key for 5 seconds to see if that resets it.

Could be water in the boot switch, wasn't this a thing on the Focus?

Yeah, the micro switch inside the handle fails when it gets damp or wet.

Try making sure the boot is fully closed, Not sure about fiesta but on a focus if the boot isn't fully closed it won't open!

Ok thanks, I'll try that this evening.

I had read that online, wasn't sure if it would be the same with a fiesta. Thanks.

In that case would the micro switch have to be changed? Is it a big job to do it?

I have tried this several times and the boot is closing properly so that doesn't seem to be causing the problem, thanks anyway.

The micro switch does sound like the problem here, but I had a similar problem before and it turned out to be a simple job and not the micro switch.

There's a multi plug in the boot that powers the boot electrics. Sometimes water can ingress into the boot and work it's way into the multi plugs and electrics. Now it might be ok but worth ruling it out before spending anything on new parts.

If you open your boot and remove the carpet liner over the passenger side wheel arch. There will be 1 or more multi plugs. You need to disconnect them and spray them with some electrical contact cleaner. Then leave it air dry for a few minutes. Reconnect them then and test it.

You might be able to open via the boot handle then. If that has no effect then it's likely the micro switch.

The multi plugs look like this:
