drainage & ventilation cavity question

    Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on some discrepancies between different people I am talking with re: a new build house.

The builder is putting in a two-storey bay window. He and one of the construction workers have given 2 different measurements for the drainage and ventilation cavity between the rib lath and plywood. Builder says its 25 mm but from seeing it ourselves and what a construction worker said its about 12 mm, and there is no vent from the cavity.

The builder says he doesn't need to put in a vent because the cavity area is small (between the ground and first floor bay windows). So if isn't really a drainage and ventilation cavity, so what is the point of it? Does it have any purpose without a vent?

If anyone could shed light on this it would be much appreciated!

    Cavity should be vented.
    Otherwise things will rot

Is there an architect checking these things on your behalf?

We had organised one to visit the house but he said he would not comment on anything to do with rot - so, we are looking for someone else who will actually comment as this is the main issue (feel free to PM any recommendations!)
