    hi folks

the clutch went on the wife's car last week, towed to the main dealer and they investigated the matter, unfortunately the insurance company would only tow to a main dealer!

total cost for clutch kit and flywheel replacement was €1350 is that reasonable enough?

independent garage would have saved you hundreds

On par with main dealer prices for diesel clutch. Independent garage would be far cheaper

Get it towed to another dealer at your own cost and you will still save a small fortune. Was the clutch slipping? Or making serious clattering noises? Is it the 1.6D? What mileage is on it?

You should be able to do it for well under 1000 in a local indie if it's not yet done. The towing charge should be 100 max if it's not too far.

If you just order the part online you should be able to get clutch kit + flywheel for not much more than 500, and a good mechanic should be able to fit them for 350-400.

it's done she went with main dealer because it was there!
anyhow it's the 1.6 d and there is 142,000km on it

she just stopped on the way into Portlaoise last week got stuck in 3rd coming off a roundabout and wouldn't budge.

I haven't driven it in ages so I don't know if there were warning signs she never mentioned anything to me.

Is it permanently stuck in third gear?

If you can't move the gear stick into neutral it's more of a problem than a clutch.

I wouldn't replace the dmf for the sake of it. There is a very quick test that can be done with the clutch out to test the dmf dampening springs.

the work is done, the recovery guy got it out of 3rd she couldn't.
Mazda said the DMF had to be replaced once they had it stripped down.
