You submit a med1 form. You can either send the paper form to the revenue or do it online through PAYE anytime.

Since you bought lots of prescriptions , you may have paid doctors too . If so include those bills as well .

    Hi There
The Quickest way is to go-online PAYE anytime. You must register online to do this, on Revenue's web site which once you have registered, will be quicker than Filling out a Med Form1,and awaiting a written reply. As regards receipts you are not required to submit them,BUT YOU MUST RETAIN THEM, as Revenue may request you to submit them to see all is in order. The LENGTH of time for holding them is 6 Years. If you have other receipts e.g.Doctors/Consultant visits
for the relevant year keep them you can also claim for these, but do check the Revenue's site for a list of what is or is not allowed. In fact you can go back 4 years i.e.2013 to 2016 inclusive,to make a claim so check all your visits/prescriptions etc.for those 4 years.Routine dental treatment cannot be claimed for,but certain treatments are allowed, again check Revenue's site. If you had qualifying Dental treatment the Dental practicioner has to fill out a Med 2 Form, which he/she signs, retain this along with the receipts.Do Remember nearly all medical expenses are only allowed at the Standard rate of Tax (20%)i.e. Expenses €1000.00c Refund will be €200.00c.If you are a Higher rate Tax payer (40%) it will be restricted to €200.00c.There is one exception to this and that is Nursing Home expenses are allowed at the Higher rate, but only if your marginal rate of tax is 40% otherwise the 20%. rate applies.
