    Hey guys,

My brother is passing out at the end of February and I'd like to get him a nice gift to mark the occasion. I'd like some advice if anyone has any suggestions. I was thinking something like a nice personalised knife or something. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Yeah a Leatherman would be useful. Maybe dont get it personalised as he is likely to end up losing it.

You could also get him to look at www.rvops.co.uk and get him to pock something that he might need or use.

You could also check this place out. A soldier statue is a popluar gift item.

Iv no affiliation with either site btw.

G-Shock watch or Leatherman will both definitely go down well if he doesn't have em already. You'd pick up a very tasty G-Shock for about €100-€130 online. If you see G-Shocks for really cheap though, be careful. They are probably knock offs. Leathermans are very cheap also online these days. Leatherman Wave is about €100.

Lightweight soft leather boots are all the rage these days as well but he'll only get 2-3 years tops outta them depending on usage. The two items mentioned above will last a lifetime. Have my two G-Shock's 16 & 8 years now and Leatherman, 14 years. Hence , both well worth the money.

I'm not Military, this popped up as it's recent... I got a revenue bill to pay before they would release my tidal G-Shock a few years ago! Just one to watch (no pun intended....)

I have one army mate and a few navy mates... From knowing them I'd suggest a (really) good rechargeable torch, Spotify or a Garmen watch!

    Congrats to your bro.

    .

To be fair, that can happen with almost any online purchase. It's not like they target particular items like G-Shocks.

Happened to a friend of mine with a pair of runners.

It's the chance you take with having purchases mailed in from outside of the state. Either way even with duty added their is still serious savings to be made on items like watches.

I'd say you're 100% right there and I just got caught. I had no problem paying the duty, just thought I'd mention it.

Best of luck with the pressie OP... My G-shock is 12 years old, solar powered, been out in the worst conditions and most corrosive elements possible sand/desert/sea/snow/heat etc... Brilliant suggestion from John_D80.

For me the hands-down winner has to be the Leatherman/Gerber multitool.

I've had mine for almost 25 years and hardly ever leave the house without it on my belt, even though I've been a civilian since 2000.

Thanks guys. The leatherman seems to be the winner. I'll get one and see can I get it personalised if possible

Just a word - my latest [ten years old] is a 'Charge' - there is nowhere easy to put an inscription due to the odd stippled surface finish. Mine has my two serials EPB'd on it - one with my OR serial and the other with my officer serial - on either side of the pointy blade.

    Nobody has stolen it yet.

Thanks for that tac, i wasn't thinking about the name on it stopping it from being stolen. It was more just to make it more personal
