    Hi boards!

I need some advice, I'm currently learning to drive (lesson 9/12) and I'll hopefully be buying a car once I've passed my test.

What car should I get for the cheapest insurance/road tax possible? I'm learning in an i20 which is nice (i'd prefer smaller the better) but I'm looking for something that'll take me a few hundred miles a month and that's it.

Happy to drive whatever for a year or two until the insurance comes down!

    Thanks!

Toyota are a great car. I got a 10 year old Corolla 1.4 l as my first ,I still miss her. Very reliable.

I'd go for something like. This if I was Getting my first again. You'll be able haggle another few hundred off.

Assuming you're 18 and living in Dublin, that a 1.4 Corolla will cost €2,500 to insure on boxymo.
The Yaris linked above was 1922 on boxymo.

Stick to small, 1.0 litre cars for the first few years to build up a NCB.

Ah I'm entering my late twenties (I got too used to public transport!)

    That should make it better.

Your best bet is to find a nice car and plug your details into the online insurance calculator on every website and see where you come out.

Be prepared to pay a lot. Personally I think its4women is the cheapest.

I had a look on one of those insurance comparison websites for the i20 I'm learning in and it was coming out at €2,700 - I shouldn't be surprised but still!

If you add your parents, brothers, sisters who have a few years no claims discount as a named driver on your insurance it should knock quite a chunk off your insurance.
