Sorry if in wrong thread, looking to bring in a passet from the uk. And I've heard the 2.0 l can give problems,
Wondering would the 1.6 be a better option but maybe under powered. Or the 1.9.
Is the many faults and if so what Is there to look out for.

Would only be tipping about the city and down the motor way the odd weekend.

The 2.0 from 2008 on gave no problems at all, in fact the 1.6 was slightly troublesome with the EGR valve.

Don't buy a diesel if you are tipping around a city most of the time.
You will have dpf and egr valve problems

The 1.9 diesel was discontinued in 2008.

As said if your doing mostly city driving then a diesel car is going to be of no benefit to you. A diesel engine is not going to be frugal on constant short stop/start trips and they are not suited to that driving style.

Look at the 1.4 TSi, first impression is that a 1.4 litre engine would be too small in a car the size of a Passat but it's turbocharged and has 122bhp which is more than the 1.6 TDi. The main thing to watch for is a stretching of the timing chain which is common in them.

The EGR valve is the same unit on the 2.0 as the 1.6. Mine is a 2013 and a 2.0 and i had to replace my EGR but lasted close to 100k miles.
