National Salary Scales - starting point

    Hello,

I was hoping someone could help clarify this for me. I was thinking of applying for a job with the SEAI, the salary scale is outlined below and it states salary will not be subject to negotiation. Does this mean that the starting salary is €22,260 regardless of experience, qualifications etc?

It is an area I would like to get in to, but starting at €22,260 would be taking a salary drop for me, and it probably wouldn't be worth it unless there was the opportunity to start at point 3 or 4.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    CONTRACT ARRANGEMENTS
This position will be offered on a 5 year fixed term contract basis.

    SALARY
    The salary for this post is at a Level C scale; €22,260, €24,110, €25,960, €27,810, €29,660, €31,510, €33,360, €35,210, €37,060, €38,910, €40,760, €42,610, €44,460, €45,412. - €46,934 (after 3 years’ service in the grade), €48,458 (after 6 years’ service in the grade) in accordance with National Pay Agreements.

    STARTING SALARY AND PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS
Candidates should note that salary will not be subject to negotiation and the rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy.

From my knowledge of the public sector, this is set in stone. You will not be parachuted in at a higher scale, regardless of qualifications or experience.

Its not set in stone but will rarely move, especially at this level.
You might believe that you're worth 5k more per year than the next candidate but it depends on whether those hiring agree (or have the budget to allow themselve the option).

Easier to justify when it is a specialist role, or a management one (harder to fill). This seems like entry level looking at the payscale so much harder to justify, also harder to seperate yourself from the rest of those applying.

I would take it as expected you would enter at point 1, not as an absolute, but expect an uphill battle to get them to start you above that if you want to try.

If you feel that you are worth more than the salary stated, possibly you should be looking at a different job?
