Just wondering if anyone who has been to Thailand recently bought suits while there? How does it work? Do they ship back to Ireland for you? Is it good value? Who would you recommend?
My son is travelling to Thailand Vietnam and Cambodia in few weeks and was thinking of stocking up on work suits .
    Any advice?

They usually turn tailoring around in 2-3 days max. I've had clothes made in Thailand and other parts of South East Asia and the quality and price has been amazing.

There are so many to choose from, we just trusted our instinct with places whose samples were to our taste

It was about 10 years ago when I got mine made there ... I was staying at a decent hotel and asked for a recommendation from them.

Went to the shop, had a few beers while choosing fabrics, cuts, styles and got measured up. Two days later they came to the hotel to do a second fitting and the suits and shirts arrive in Ireland about 3 weeks later.

Great value ... and really good quality

I had it done twice already, first time I choose one close to my Hotel from Tripadvisor, the second time I went down the street and picked the first one I found. (Alternatively, ask a TukTuk driver where to get a good suit, they will drop you there for free :D ) Both results were excellent, but I always picked them up myself and had not shipped them home.

I got some in Hoi An in Vietnam. It's one of the best places to go when getting a suit.

I used Kimmy's and they were excellent. I got about 4-5 years out of the suits (they are actually still perfect to wear it's just they are a looser fit and I prefer a tighter fit). It took me about 3 days to get them and they will keep your measurements on file and you can order from them and have them delivered too. (Though I don't know how good this is, or if they sill do it, as I never got it.)

if he goes to Vietnam tell him to go to Hoi An and he can literally have his pick from hundreds of shops and try and negotiate a good price for himself. However don't compromise the material to save €20.

This is great info. Do u think there would be much price difference between Vietnam and Thailand? Many thanks for the very helpful replies so far.

I'm not sure how much the prices are in Thailand for suits but Thailand is a good bit more expensive than Vietnam for living expenses, hotels, food, etc. So I'd imagine suits are more expensive too, though I'm open to correction on that.

Google Hoi An and suits and you will find a mountain of reviews from loads of places, this will allow your son to rule out places and save time once in Vietnam. He can also go into shops when there and watch people being fitted, especially for the second / third fitting when the suit material is available to see.

How much would a good suit be Thailand out of interest?

Depends all on the material but 150 Euro will give you a very good hand tailored suit to your fit.

I've paid 80 in Thailand and 60 in Vietnam and got excellent quality

You won't be short of offers, especially in Bangkok. In some area you have to run a gauntlet of guys (mostly Indian) urging you to try their place. Best to do some research. Any recommendation (even best hotels) will have a commission built in. Never let a taxi or tuk tuk pick the place.

It is good value but quality varies and make sure you (a) pick a good cloth and (b) verify that you got it. Be very specific about everything - lining, buttons, zips etc. Don't buy without fitting on the final cut and get it done in enough time to get alterations if necessary.

Also, I've known cases where Irish Customs hit people at the airport. Wear it on the way home.

the brother has two suits in the wardrobe from two trips to SE asia

I'm always giving him abuse about not wearing them

they will more than likely sit in your wardrobe too
