Market for 2nd-hand Fiestas (2008)

There seems to be great resale value in Fiestas at the moment. 2008's are going anything between 4500 - 6k, depending on dealer/private/mileage etc. Obviously this assertion is just based on what I see them being advertised for on the various car sites, but it's been this way for months & months now and doesn't seem to have changed, so I can only assume they are selling for close to those prices.

We have a 08 1.25 petrol, 5-door, with 85k kms and we are thinking of selling it to upgrade (size & year). Great little car in very good condition that has never caused us any trouble - we've had it almost 3.5 years.

Could we really expect to be getting in & around 5k for it? I just find that hard to believe, but the market seems to suggest it's possible/likely.....

I'd say €4k would be more realistic going by what private sale similar cars are going on Donedeal.

Thanks for the reply - although that's much more pessimistic than I was hoping for :)

But if it's just realism than so be it! I'd definitely be hoping for no less than 4.5k to be honest. Based on the market, the mileage on ours and a few other bits (NCT until end 2017, reverse parking sensors, good rubber on the front two etc....).

Sure we'll see how I go I suppose!

My sister bought a similar car with only 18k km 5 years ago, with a 6 month warranty from a Ford dealer and paid €7.5k with no trade-in. Not likely she would get anywhere near 5k for it today.

You have to factor in that it's now 9 years old and there is a brand new Fiesta model being released in the next few months making a 2008 two models old. Also here is a 2009 newer model asking €4k, VRT is just under €1k so say €5k cleared:

It's a 9 year old car that cost around €16k new.

I think your €4.5k is overly optimistic if it's the 2002 shape model.

I appreciate there will be examples of newer cars for lower money etc. but I was just basing it off averages of what I see online.

Not sure if it's the 2002 shape, I think it's the newer shape. Basically like this one (this isn't ours, not advertised yet): https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2008-ford-fiesta-zetec-steel/13884970

Yes that's the old model that came out in 2002.

As an example. That ad you linked is up 2 months now. It's only got 19000 miles.

    Why isn't it sold?

Price I'd say. Yours would have to be cheaper again to sell.

Well to be fair there's no evidence it's not sold - I'd say there's a lot of fellas who don't take their ads down promptly once they've sold.

Anyway, I appreciate the replies, I'll never know until I put it up!

Motor tax website says that ownership on that car in Kerry has not changed in 3 months so I think it's fair to say it's not sold yet and being honest its not hard to see why. It looks clean and the mileage is low but people are not going to pay over the top for it when they can buy newer examples for not much more.

    Up for €5,250 in Galway?

All the best if you get anywhere near it!

I think you would be doing well to get €3k for a direct sale. If getting a new car maybe use it for trade in although it would probably only be worth about €2k to a main dealer.

    Worth more than €3k....

I sold a 2005 for €2500 a few weeks back... Had 120k miles. Should sell around €4k (Assuming Timing Belt has been done)

Sold it in the end for 3600. To be fair it served us well for 3.5 years and we only paid 5850 for it when we bought it back then, so I think we've done well.....
