Hi I was driving my boyfriends mothers car new years eve,I was dropping my boyfriend to his brother house ,which is around the corner from us , I'm insured under the car,I dropped him off and proceed to the traffic light , light went green and two cars waiting at the red light in my left side had stopped so I pulled out slowly all perfect until this van comes speeding down the bus lane on the left hand side and crashes into the side of me

He broke a red light, was speeding gardai were called and he accepted liability until I rang today asking about the damage if he is going to pay and proceeds to shout at me saying it was my fault I went through a red light and it was green for him , blatant lies but currently waiting for cctv from local shop for proof any other advice ? Bit scared

Hi it's always a shock and hope you are ok.

I would suggest no more contact and contact your own insurance right away also his if you have not done so.

Take note of everything said at scene and also any witnesses if any.
keep note of all contact so far and as I said do not contact him again.

Let your insurance do the work and if you need and further help pm me I can give you advice and a solicitor that specialise in these cases.

Did the Gardaí hear what he said and if so contact the Guard and just say it to him.

Best of luck with getting sorted.

If the gardai came and took a report of the accident and the other driver admitted liability in front of them then the Garda was a witness to that. Did you get the Garda's name and number? You should go to the Garda station and talk to the Garda in question and get the pulse reference number of the incident from him.

Did you get the other driver's insurance details at the scene? I'd lodge a claim directly with his insurance company and would not have any more dealings with the other party as he has had time to think and obviously is now trying to worm his way out through intimidation in the hope you don't want the agro and drop it. Unfortunately as has been shown a few times these assholes think they are clever and most likely he will deny any wrongdoing to his insurance company in which case this may well land in the hands of a solicitor. So gather as much evidence as possible.

Hi thanks for the replies I have his insurance details and even the gardai at the time came over asking were we ok and that the other driver said he can pay or take it through his insurance I was in shock and couldn't talk properly my three year old was in the back seat In her car seat so I was more worried about her , it's costing about 1500 .

I just can't believe the hassle this guy is causing now ,he was so apologetic at the scene and kind , I'm going to contact the gardai tomorrow after work and try find out the name
