As above did the NCT test on the 16 dec and car failed on front passenger seat broken/damaged and rear service break imbalance, shortly after was laid up with my back so took that time to scour the web looking for a replacement front seat. Its like looking for hens teeth but hopefully may have one sourced during the week,in the mean time i got the braking fault sorted. As i said before the car failed on the 16th dec so have 21 days to book for a retest which would bring me to around the 6th jan so booked it in on the 29th dec for the retest to be done on the 9th of jan, thing is i was getting dates muddled up in my head and found out that my NCT expires on the 4th jan tommorrow
Now a couple of questions if i put the car in on the 9th jan and brake problem is remedied but seat issue is,nt would i only need to go back for a visual regarding the seat so no extra retest charges once i,m back before the 30 days which would be around the 15th jan ?
In the meen time with the NCT expireing on the 4th jan if i found the car seat and needed to travel miles to collect in a couple or few days time if i was stopped by the gaurds would i get 3 points or is it up to a gaurds discretion especially seeing as i have documentation for the retest and a reciept for the work on the brakes, cheers.

Your retest window is from the initial test date. You don't get 30 days every time you retest.
You need a valid NCT either way.
But in practice no guard is going to give you any hassle if you have tax and insurance. "Don't be sad, cos 2 out of 3 ain't bad" type thing.

doubly so if you have a looming test date.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Yep i know i dont get 30 days every time i retest,i had stated that the NCT was done on the 16dec so the 30 day limit would have been around the 15th jan.Sorry it was in all fairness a hard post to decipher, feck ya with your 2 out of 3 aint bad, that songs now going over and over in my head

It's always a grey area with these things

If only there was a legally required paper disc on the windscreen showing the NCT expiry date and you could then on your own initiative book the car in 90 days before it was going to expire without any penalty.

If only, in your utopia, tyres and alignments were free so we didn't have to save up for them...

Got a test on Monday and need some new shoes to pass..
