OK, I have to throw this one out there as I haven't a notion what to suggest...

My daughter asked me what 6/7 seater she should go for that looks nice and doesn't scream "Mummy" (bit of denial going on maybe :-)).

Doesn't like the Ford Galaxy, too "slabby" I think was the term.

    Budget 15 - 18K. 4 -5 years old I guess. Thanks.

Ford S max would be marginally less mumsy, maybe a Nissan Qashqai+2 which is mumsy and trendy at the same time.

Something jeepy will give you the seats but at the expense of interior space and running costs.

Toyota Verso is undoubtedly an mpv, its smaller than the galaxy, but is a nice enough looking car in a sort of inoffensive way. Same with the vw touran.

Just bought a qashqai +2 this week for these reasons. Just make sure the seating suits your family arrangements in terms of car seats and ages etc.

Seat Altea XL? Only a six seater though.

Looks kinda sporty, if slabby is an issue.

    That's horrendous!

It's only got 5 seats. Unless you're counting the badge :)

    Here you go https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/mitsubishi-outlander-2-2-did-2wd-intense-7-seater/12642338

But if she only has 2 kids, give her a slap. Mammies driving cars big enough to transport a basketball team when they have 1, or 2 kids is just ridiculous.

Number 4 on the way so she needs the space alright although hubby disagrees because he says he's not going anywhere with 4 kids in the car LOL!

She will be getting out of a 09 A6 auto which she likes (I think it is a good drive).

The Outlander might appeal, some good suggestions, keep them coming. Running costs are important. Thanks.

    Land Rover Disco?

    http://www.carsireland.ie/detail.php?ad_id=1611126&r=s.php%3Fm%3D43%26o%3D361%26g%3D0%26z%3D-8

Not sure if available in year/budget to suit.

Ford Grand C Max def possible in budget from UK, bit more "mummy" than the Disco though!

Sorry, but every 6 or 7 seater you will buy will tell people you have a pile of kids.

Single folk wouldn't buy a 7 seater, lets be honest most of them aren't the prettiest.

4008, Outlander and C-Crosser are the same car, with slightly different exterior details. But the interior is the same.

    Great cars, made in Japan.

w124 estate like this one - not mumsy, still classy, practical, totally bullet proof, no depreciation, and probably as good to drive as any of the jap crap crapquai's etc.

    +1 on W124
also any modern E class 7-seater estate. Definitely not too mumsy and from the outside most people won't even know it's a 7 seater.
Also Volvo V70 at a stretch, and possibly XC90.
There are some Audi A6 seven seaters there as well, but very rare.
And last but not least: Fiat Multipla :P

Thats because its not. Its a 5 seater +2 and the plus 2 are in the boot looking the wrong way. Such a horrible way to have to sit in any vehicle be it a car, bus, train etc.

The Outlander, 4008 and C-Cosser is the best of the suggestions. The S-Max is a great suggestion too lovely car they are like a spaceship inside. They are also lovely to drive just make sure the engines is not the 1.8 but the 2.0litre diesel.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Aren't all those old cars frightfully dangerous like the insurance companies say?

I would say Honda FR-V but they discontinued the car in 2010. Otherwise the new Scenic. Looks good on 20" alloys and seems like a cross between MPV and a Crossover.

The rear-facing seats on E-class and V70 are fairly safe and not too uncomfortable for kids, especially for short journeys. Probably the same in A6 (but haven't tried that!). Yes, they are intended for occasional use (i.e. occasionally picking up the extra kid for play date for school) and not for consistent, long distance journeys. So yes, if you have 3+ kids, consider aa full 7 seater. If you have less, and you'd only use it occasionally, you will get by perfectly with a 5+2. We had a W124 and our kids used to love it, wanted to sit in it even when didn't have 7 people in the car. We have 2 kids.

Finally, unless you have lots of kids, think again about whether you really need a full 7 seater or even a 5+2. Whilst it is nice to have the option of occasionally fitting extra people, you'd be surprised how quickly you get used to not doing that, especially if you are a two car family. We replaced the W124 with a Saab 95 Estate and it has been only 1 or 2 occasions in the past year that we thought oh a 7 seater would've been handy. We survived perfectly fine! The niceness and spaciousness of proper estate car will make up for that.
