Use www.skyscanner.ie - Ryanair Dub-Stansted-Alghero looks like your cheapest option (using a random date in June)

They stopped flying there, pity i'd 100% go back.

Elba is another island worth checking out, you've to get a ferry.

There is some good value from Dublin to Cagliari with Iberia/Vueling however they often involve overnight layovers in Madrid or Barcelona

Here's possible cheap combinations that don't involve long layovers.

    OUTBOUND
    Sunday 25 June: DUB-MAD-CAG (1hr 15min layover); €74 IBERIA
    Sunday 2 July: DUB-MAD-CAG (1hr 15min layover); €84 IBERIA
    Sunday 9 July: DUB-MAD-CAG (1hr 15min layover); €104 IBERIA

    RETURN
Wednesday 21 June, 12/19 July and 2/9/16/23/30 August:
    CAG-MAD-DUB (2hr 50 min layover); €76 IBERIA
Saturday 24 June, 1/8/15/22/29 July and 5/12 August:
    CAG-ARN-DUB (45min layover); €168 SAS
    Tuesday 3 August:
    CAG-BCN-DUB (1hr 25 min layover); €125 VUELING

You have to book both legs seperately as two one-way tickets as they won't let you book the flights for those prices as a return flight. It is worth the trouble to save money though.

You won't get any better or cheaper options than that!

Yea I'd say so it's off the beaten track for the Irish, the emerald coast would make a lot of people wince with the prices. Elba is a beautiful island if it's an island holiday your after, again very little Irish or English. You'll have to ask for English menus.

Really wanted to get to either last year but was unworkable with 2 young kids, ended up in Ibiza (non party area) , easy to get to and the water was warm and beaches lovely, couldn't complain about it going back again this year.
When kids get older I'll venture back to Italy most likely Elba. If its just 2 if you on a romantic holiday you could end up in worse places than Elba or if you want to party with the Hilton's head for the emerald coast in Sardinia.

There are actually direct flights from Dublin to Sardinia (Alghero) beginning this June. They are CityJet charter flights but can be booked as flight only holidays on https://www.sunway.ie/ They are expensive enough though at €300+ (although I think this includes checked bags).

That's great news, haven't anything booked for next year yet, must have a look later on to see is there anything family friendly that's doesn't cost a kidney. Those beaches are some of the nicest I've seen in the world.
