have a double rad with two circular inserts that has a metal circular piece inside for bleeding rad. One on each of the single rads.

Both seem to continually turn but don't open the rad to bleed. no water/air comes out of them when turned with bleed key. or any other time...

someone suggested to me to drill a hole in the rads and put a screw -self tapper in and use this to bleed the rad. ....it doesn't heat as it should. have balanced them as best I can.

is this the only way to bleed a rad that wont bleed in usual fashion?

hoping to avoid having to buy a new rad ..thks..paddy

Hold the plastic part to stop it turning and bleed as normal.

They all swivel, to give you the option of not soaking the curtains. ;)

Thanks I know those rads you mention with the white plastic piece. This one I have the problem with is 14/15 yrs old. The inserts are about 2 inches from the end of each rad at the top ( double) no plastic piece ...You just put the bleed key in and turn it ...The key keeps turning but is not actually opening the value..If you can follow ...Thanks ...

Are you sure that the " a metal circular piece inside for bleeding rad" is not meant to be square and has just rounded off ? Does anything turn or is the key slipping on the metal. Does the key fit tightly over the square vent ?

Try different sockets. Either a 4.5, 5 or 5.5 will get you out. They'll need to be almost compressed into the worn piece using a large grips.
