Whats is the cost of this?
And are the venues really applying for this or just chancing there arms?

In hotels where it was discussed I have seen it to be between 400 and 500 euro. One offered to include it if we had the wedding during off peak....I really didn't like the idea of paying for it as surely it's in their benefit to be selling drinks for longer. I'd always chance my arm and ask them to include it.

But are the hotels actually applying to the court and paying the fee?or just charging

I highly doubt they're not complying with a legal requirement...

    Yes, they are.

The fee for a bar Special Exemption Order is currently 410 euro and is applied for monthly. If a venue is charging 500 and citing the application fee, they are taking you for a ride.

Realistically though, you'd get a residents bar out of it as well as a late bar at the wedding itself, so probably worth it.

Our wedding was a Saturday in August and there was no charge for the bar until 2.30 and then the residents bar. Some hotels just include it.

I used to work in a hotel where it cost us 410 plus legal fees (so usually around 460) and we would charge half and cover half

So the bride & groom paid 230

You should be able to get this included at no charge when negotiating the rate
