First batch of lambs finished this morning....

    17 Ewes, 1 Died
    33 Lambs born, 4 died

All purebred Suffolk. Lambs we're purposely smaller than other years, cut right back on feeding, ewes were much lighter coming off summer grazing and it seems to have made a huge difference.

Liveliest lot of Suffolk lambs I've seen in a long time so all in all quite happy.

    Anyone else kicked off yet?

ah sh*te sorry to hear that. We lost one before the lambing even started last year. Twin lamb we think it was. we had a really rough start last year (our first year at it too), hoping this year goes smoother :(

Thanks! Both of them had their lambing beds out! Hard but that's farming! It's all a gamble really! Ewe had 2 lambs there now big head out when I went out then the other one was backwards!

Just got a call from the mother in law one of the sheep was making awful noise in the shed so she went and checked on it, vet en route, think she's losing her lambs. Not due for 7 or so weeks yet. Have a feeling it may be one that lost triplets last year too. She may be for the chop. Not a great start but such is life.

Yep she aborted twins, wasn't due for weeks. If it happens again will get a PM, but have a strong suspicion that it was her lost the trips last year too.

She was taken from the group and put into one of our lambing pens away from the rest.
Should we keep her separated until after the lambing is finished?
We have a few pens that just need tidying up could stick her in one of those. (and disinfect the sh*t out of the lambing one) Will need all the lambing pens when the time for the rest to lamb...

Unlucky start! Hopefully you'll have better luck when they start lambing!

Get rid of her now,no point feeding a ewe for 3 to watch her abort another set of lambs next year
