Corruption - could you ever see an Irish head of state doing this?

Putin gets a lot of flack from "the democracies" of the west, from me as well but when it comes to public money i'd love to see politicians in this country confront some of their mates in this way!

    Maybe one day....

Remember all the billions wasted in cost overruns on projects and financed by the state? Maybe had that money been saved the country would not have needed a bailout and could have sorted it's issues. Pity it's not taken seriously.

I await the day a Taoiseach questions a contractor in that manner. All buddies.

    This is Ireland.

Only here would someone already known to have bribed a minister be awarded another hefty state contract.

    With an effectively bankrupt company.

That tax payers took a hit on, for him to buy it. And under the counter cash payments as sweeteners.

And then Putin had them all poisoned.

Fascinating why Russia has launched a PR offensive. Why is this bilge being inflicted on poor old AH though. Hasn't Putin somewhere to hack or invade or a dictator to support with air strikes on hospitals of something.

Exactly the reason why I and many others protested against IW. It's real pity many people are too lazy to read into that case and labled any IW protesters 'anti everything scroungers'. Shocking abnormalities in the Siteserv sale resulting in the taxpayer getting walloped.

Jesus he kept turning the screw on your man at the start, great to see them having to explain themselves. He's just in a different league to Enda or Bertie or any Irish leaders, even in how he speaks, he doesn't stumble blindly through each sentence like a newborn giraffe.

Bit funny coming from him though when he's been building a 2 billion quid mansion for when he retires with state money.

We used to have Shinnerbots for SF. what do we call the Putin fan club? Putin bots? Pubots? Putin trolls? Ah! Putrolls.

No doubt Vlad isn't short of a few bob alright, but who is going to call him up on it ?
That's real power. Not trumping out a few tweets.

I'd say he'd be a great lad to sit down and have a drink with........with him no doubt regaling you of that time he garrotted some fella on a mission, just before lashing it into some femme fatale.

Let's put it into perspective , we're not living in Africa or Mexico where corruption is commonplace , some people here think we live in a corrupt 3rd world hell hole

He'd also have your house bulldozed with your family in it if you got in his way. No thanks. We need laws and regulations to protect us from corruption not quasi-dictatorial thugs.

We live in a country run by the political elites that feather their own nests and their mates.... There is a dusty case in the DPP for example just one of many friends.

Another Putin/Russia bashing thread...no comments on our own government squandering taxpayers money left right and centre..
We get it"Putin bad" but everything else is not good.
I wish enda would call out a few ministers on their disgraceful performance in government.

    Not only here, no.

And we can complain about it to our hearts' content here too (and by Jesus do some folk do that - nothing to actually remedy the issue though!)

Does that make the corruption here acceptable so? We should always be demanding better.

Absolutely - but it doesn't make it appropriate to pretend Ireland is on a par with a dictatorship. It's a bit of an insult to people who live in dictatorships and who would love the freedom we have.

You would have to kill off the careers of all TD's Ps, family careers and alike of anyone with a sniff of power for the last 20 years to even come close to cleaning out Irish politics.

In fairness only 2 have ever had majorities and thus call the shots. Typically the smaller parties have been decimated after coalitions too.
