Buying a new car

    Hi all,

Looking to purchase a new car in the next few months. I currently drive a 2009 MK5 VW Golf Match 1.9TDI and am hoping to get something on the similar lines 1 or 2 year old with max 30,000 Miles. I drive 500 miles a week and this car is to last 3/4 years.

I have been thinking a Seat Leon FR as an alternative but I want to stay with VW or upgrade to Audi.

I am also split between importing a car(Audi maybe) and buying from main dealer(warrantys/peace of mind).

My own car holds little or no trade value due to mileage(130,000 MILES).

Can people please advise on their thoughts or ideas regarding this.

    TIA

First who told you that your car holds no trade value? 130k miles on that engine is nothing. It has hardly been driven. That is the beauty of those diesel engines.

They are up for sale at a min of around 7k on carzone so should be 5-7k at least with dealer. I would personally sell it private as it will sell no problem

How much have you got in addition to your Golf?

Agreed. 130k is not high milage for those engines. Shouldn't have any problem selling it. Dealer would be looking to sell at a strong price so I wouldn't accept a low ball offer from them. If all else fails, as said, you'll shift it easy in a private sale. Cracking engine.

The car is worth very little to a main dealer as they won't retail at that age or mileage. Better off selling it privately as you will probably get more for it as diesel Golfs of that age in good shape are still fetching decent money.

You can then negotiate a discount for buying straight/no trade-in off the new car or buy in the in the UK.

I've put 30,000 miles on it I got it(this day last year). Drive on country roads to work 35 mile each way so wary of another year driving it.

I would chance selling it on Carzone although I would be wary of undesirables coming to the house.

Has anyone any experience with warrantys from importing a car from the UK or are you pretty much on your own?

Would fancy an A4 S Line or something a long the lines of a Leon FR, Octavia(with a bit of spec), VW Golf Highline all of which are available quite reasonably from the north.

    For example:

If you want to give it away for free I will take it off your hands :D
