Lidl or b&q saw table

If you accept that you are going to have to replace either eventually then I'd go with the Scheppach. The 3 year warrantee on the Lidl is handy but if you use the saw much you will probably need it, the motor is the weakest point.

    Thanks.
Yes it's just to get me started. Don't have the funds at the moment to get the one I want (Dewalt 740) so your opinion is apreciated

Have the 740 its not without its faults but feels solid and will last, nearest neighbor has the older 739 and its 20 years old. Another neighbor had the Lidl one and burnt two motors out before the warranty ended.

I found the stand with the 740 to be the worst thing about it. What it was designed for I can't work out but its far bigger (wider) than it really needs to be and takes up far more room than it needs to so I find myself just carrying the 740 and not bothering with the stand.

Thanks for that insight. I was just going to get the table saw without the stand once I can afford it. So I guess I'm off to B&Q this weekend.

Table saws are great for doing a wide range of cuts. Stability and solid guides make a big difference in usability. You can't beat a bit of weight I think in this sort of equipment.

What are they like compared with lidl and the B&Q one?

They'd be very similar. I think the build quality and the main body of the Scheppach may be slightly better but the Aldi one has that attractive 3 year guarantee which I know from experience that you are likely to need if you use the Aldi (or Lidl) one much.

Neighbor had the Lidl one and burnt out two motors in the space of a couple of years, but for the amount of work the saw did he didn't get bad value out of it even with the breakdowns.

Neither will be particularly accurate and accuracy will be down to the users skill more than the quality of accuracy of the guides.

I had one years ago, didn't get that much use and the motor let out the smoke. It's rebranded Einhell.

OK. I think that answers that. I called b&q last week and tonight to see if they had stock. Sadly they don't but said again they are waiting for stock.

I bought one like this: http://www.axminster.co.uk/jet-jts-315-s-site-saw-bench-ax32026 15 years ago. Made a load of stuff on it (plus a router), including doors, beds, presses, mouldings etc. Paid for itself many times over.

More like five times depending on the exchange rate and carriage but nice saw all the same :)

Would like to get something like that, but sadly I don't have funds.
Will put it in my wish list

Sure, but with equipment like this, even for occasional use - a bit of weight and stability makes it worth it. This is a 'site saw' - so a compromise between a shop table saw and the lighter 'DIY' saws. But also enough quality to last. As I say, I've made a load of stuff with it and it's paid for itself many times over. Of course, you also need a bit of space to use and store it.
