Trade-in values?

I'am thinking of trading my 131 Jetta against maybe a new Passat or Avensis.
What should I expect my Jetta to be worth on a trade-in?

It's a comfortline model with about 79000 Kms.

    I'd be thinking about €15k?

Check whatever a similar one is selling in a dealers and deduct 25%, roughly that much.

That seems a lot? Bearing in mind if I went in to buy the new car straight up I'd expect to buy it about 1500 less. Maybe it has gone that way.

It may look good on paper but you may well be better of try sell private but be ready for a long wait as a lot won't part with huge amounts especially privately.

    This.

Cars of that price bracket are extremely hard to sell privately. No one will give 15-20k in to some fellas hand and take car with no warranty or come back. Its going to be a very very hard sale.
The only option is to go to as much dealers as you can and see what will ne the best deal you will get. Keep in mind to focus on a "price difference" you will pay and not how much "trade in price" they will give you. Someone can offer you 17K for your car and you will think it's great deal, but in reality, he will charge you 5K more for passat, then other dealer.

New model Jetta is just around the corner so expect to take a hit on the trade-in value. Avensis is retailing cheaper than the Passat too but VW probably have a lower interest rate than Toyota. Avensis is ancient at this stage being around since 2009 though they got improvements from late 2015.

I agree with bazz the Avensis and the Passat might be in the same class but the Passat is in a whole different league to the Avensis. Saying that maybe you like the Avensis and the fact that you might get a great deal on it now as well.

Why not check out a few other cars in that class. The Mazda 6, and Kia Optima are both fine cars too or could wait till the new Opel Insignia is out which looks like it will be a fabulous car.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I'm going to hijack this thread instead of creating a new one.
Other half is changing the car, and trading a 08 Citroen C3 with 138k KM. They are not that common, and not many on carzone or donedeal. The ones I see on carzone with that milage are 4k upwards. I was hoping for around 3k trade in value. We were offered only 1500 over the phone yesterday.

Surely selling it private would be the way to go? €1500 for a 2008 car seems insane, perhaps in person they would give more than over the phone.

People get obsessed about what a dealer will give them for their old car against a newer one. The figure to concentrate on unless your buying a brand new car is the cost to change price. Dealers can give you a fabulous price for your old car if the car they are selling is overpriced. How much they want with your car to trade up is the only figure that matters.

id love to do that, however she can't be without a car, needs it for work. We would be forced into buying a car straight away after we'd sell hers.

fully agree, however the asking price for the new car was a little on the high side. I was shocked with the amount we were asked to upgrade. I didn't bother haggling as the gap from our limit to what he was asking was far too big. Looking at another car this evening, I'll keep ye posted :)

Buy first for cash. Then sell the C3.

You will be able to get a good deal for cash with all the trade ins after the New Year reg. rush.
